Metropol Parasol

Updated: Nov 28, 2020

Designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer H., Metropol Parasol is a wood structure in Seville, Spain, measuring 150 x 70 m (490 x 230 ft) at a height of 26 m (85 ft).

Consisting of six “mushroom” parasols that form a latticed timber canopy, Mayer's design explores the nature of material and 3D technology forming into a work of art. Realized as one of the largest and most innovative bonded timber-constructions, the parasols grow out of an archaeological excavation site into a contemporary landmark, defining a unique relationship between the historical and the contemporary city.

Site: Metropol Parasol (Las Setas de la Encarnación), Seville, Spain
