Local Photographer Finds His Roots
Updated: Nov 12, 2020
On a twelve-day journey tracing his roots in Senegal, photographer Joshua Woods, a Harlem native, captured this amazing shot of wrestler Mor Ndiaye in the salty pink waters of Lake Retba. Made as diary-like reflections to celebrate black life in Senegal, the image is “one of sublime beauty, a search for strength and a search for self” (The New Yorker, 2018).
