Ikat's Legacy in Today's Design

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

These tribal ikat textiles were beautifully interpreted into the Armani Privé Spring/Summer 2020 Haute Couture Collection.

Ikat (the Malay-Indonesia word for “tie”) originates from a wide range of diverse cultures from Southeast Asia, South America and the Silk Road.

First introduced to the West by the Dutch and Spanish in the 17th century, ikat inspires today’s fashion and interior designers mesmerised by its authenticity and mystic qualities.
